Out Of Eden: To God Be The Glory

Out Of Eden
Out Of Eden

Comprised of the Kimmey sisters; Lisa Nicole, Andrea and Danielle, collectively known as Out Of Eden, return with “Lovely Day 3.0,” their first single in nearly two decades. The Grammy nominated Richmond, Virginia, based Contemporary Christian music trio announced their long overdue reunion this past September.

Please introduce for me the members of Out Of Eden…

Lisa Nicole, Andrea Baca, and Danielle Torrez [formerly the Kimmey Sisters]

Tell me your whole inception into music -- When did you all first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for Out Of Eden?

Our journey in music started from the very beginning of our lives. Oldest sister Lisa Nicole was always writing her own songs and bringing sisters Andrea and Danielle in to do harmony. We practiced dancing and singing together for years as kids. Eventually when we were between 8-13, our mom heard that record labels in Nashville, TN, were looking for a Christian New Kids on the Block. So she moved the whole family to Nashville in hopes of her daughters becoming a professional singing group.

Now where do you all hail from? And growing up there, who all did / do you all consider to be your strongest musical influences?

We grew up in Richmond, VA, and we weren't allowed to listen to "mainstream" music. Our boombox was always playing Crystal Lewis, Amy Grant, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Steven Wiley, Commissioned, Billy & Sarah Gaines, and Petra. Around 10 years old, we were introduced to Michael Jackson's music and that had a big impact on our musical inspiration.

Now from an individual standpoint, what do each of you bring to the table both personality-wise and creatively?

Being sisters, it's funny how each of us fits into our birth order. As we've grown and reunited, our contributions have evolved but some things remain the same as when we were kids! Lisa Nicole is our primary songwriter and producer, Andrea is our anchor and the one who keeps us moving forward together, Danielle does the marketing and some of the business side of Out of Eden.

In having said that, how do you all classify your overall sound and / or style?

We would consider ourselves a mix of Christian Pop and R&B with Gospel music influences.

Where does the group’s moniker originally derive from?

The name Out of Eden comes from Genesis 2:10 where it says, “…a river flows from out of eden to water the garden..." We always saw this as our calling. To bring God's word and His ways to our generation.

Switching gears here…

What do you all want people to get from your music?

We released "Lovely Day 3.0" as the first single in 15 years because we are living in difficult times. We need to be encouraged, brought back to joy, and reminded that God is watching over us.  With our return to music, we want people to know that regardless of your circumstances and responsibilities, or where you find yourself in life, it is okay to go after the dreams and visions God has placed in your heart! If we can do it with kids, jobs, worship teams to lead, etcetera...we believe it's possible for anyone. With God all things are possible.

If you all could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

We have a few artists on our "dream list." CeCe Winans, Mary Mary, Lecrae, Coldplay and Michael Jackson would probably top the list.

If you all could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

We played Madison Square Garden and it was a dream come true!!!

On a more serious note, are you all happy with the current state of music? And, even more specifically, why do you all feel that we, the masses, don’t see the group dynamic like it was back in, say, the nineties?

We are happy that there are up and coming Pop, Hip Hop, and Gospel artists coming on the scene who are spreading God's love and getting a lot of recognition. That wasn't always the case and we celebrate the growth that's happened in the Christian music industry. I don't know why groups aren't as popular outside of K-Pop or nostalgic reunions; like NKOTB or SWV. Trends are cyclical, so I have no doubt that groups will see a huge comeback into popularity. It's just a matter of time!

Do you all have any other outside / additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Lisa Nicole is a singer as a career and launched into a solo career in 2000. She will continue putting out music. Andrea is a NICU Nurse, and Danielle is a Senior Director of Marketing.

To date, what has been your greatest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Singing on stage with Billy Graham, and then watching him deliver a message and give the invite to follow Jesus was so emotional and definitely a high point in our career!

What’s an average day like for you all?

I think our day is a lot like everyone's except for the mornings and evenings because those are the times we are doing radio and podcast interviews and interacting on social media with followers and fans. Other than that, it's just like every other mom. Our lives are not about us! We spend most of our time working at our full-time jobs and taking care of our families.

Please discuss how you all interact with and respond to fans...

Most of our interaction is on Instagram. Please follow us on IG @outofedenofficial, on TikTok @outofedenofficial, and on Facebook as Out of Eden.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Our favorite part is glorifying God and spreading his love through music! That, and just being together as sisters. We all live in different cities, so this reunion is giving us the chance to be together way more often.

What advice would you all have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

There is room for you. Whatever music God has put in your heart, practice it, cultivate it, and share it! Whether it's at local churches / venues or on social media, you need to build an audience and that's impossible to do if you don't put yourself out there.

Lastly, what’s next for Out Of Eden?

We are in the studio currently and recording an EP that will come out Spring 2025!

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

You covered it!

Any "closing" thought(s) for our readers?

Thanks for taking the time to read. We pray you are encouraged in your journey by reading this and that you have a "Lovely Day."
